Nous Services is an on-chain management layer based on Chainlink, the world’s most widely used oracle network for managing smart contracts. Hybrid smart contracts and Keepers form the basis of Chainlink’s blockchain functionality, and are being used to automate Nous products and services.

Hybrid Smart Contracts: Smart contracts often require data from off-chain sources - information from a market indicator, for example. Oracles are decentralised entities within the Chainlink infrastructure which translate data sources from the ‘real world’ into simple, smart-contract-compatible inputs and outputs. Smart contracts with this functionality are known as hybrid smart contracts.

Keeper Nodes: Smart contracts keep an immutable record of their functions by design, but they cannot execute these functions without the intervention of a third party. Keeper nodes solve this issue by keeping stock of metadata and using the Chainlink network to enforce contract specifications as and when they come into play, all the while preserving the principle of decentralisation key to the Nous vision of finance. Crucially, Keepers ensure automation without the need for a centralised contract manager.
